Bajaj unveils a new mini car

Bajaj unveils a mini car RE60 similar to the Tata's Nano. It is termed as a public passenger carrier rather than being called as a car. Bajaj auto was believed to be working to take on a rival to the Tata Nano it seems. But it launched its product as a commercial vehicle rather than being a people's car.

The company seem to be positioning the RE60 a better option for three wheelers (auto rickshaws) by providing a safer and more stable option for urban transport. The company's managing director Rajiv Bajaj said that it did not wish to make a car but a good alternative to the three wheelers.

The RE60 base model is equipped a rear mounted 200cc petrol engine which delivers a tested mileage of 35kmpl. It also has an integrated digital faremeter in dashboard. It has a top speed of 70kmph.

The company also added that it has spent nearly four years for developing its new product which has minimum carbon emissions and has options of petrol and CNG/LPG.

The price has yet to be announced, but it is expected to cost around Rs 1.18 lakhs. I hope it wont be a tough competitor for Tana Nano which has a more powerful 623cc engine with a mileage of 25kmpl.
