Reed valve induction system - Explained

Yamaha RX 100, the name still exits in the hearts of automobile enthusiasts and motorcycle lovers even after its production has stopped almost a decade ago. Still many people are ready to spend more than its original price during the time of its manufacturing even today for a well maintained one. Due to strict emission norms, poor scavenging and lack of fuel efficiency the production of 2 stoke engine is banned in many countries but this bike still remains as a legend in everyone's hearts.

Oil cooler - All you want to know....

The term oil cooler and oil cooling became very popular in India after launching the Pulsar series 200 (discontinued) and 220 F from Bajaj motors. Oil cooling as we know from the name itself is cooling of engine oil by help of a special component called an oil cooler. Generally an engine oil will loose its viscosity if temperatures are very high than its specified heat range. As a result it may not be able to lubricate the mechanical components properly as specified. To overcome this problem and to provide better cooling especially for air cooled high performance engines oil coolers are generally used.

Engine as a stressed member in motorcycles. what does it mean ????

Engine is a vital component in maintaining the stability of a bike. The weight of the engine is usually responsible for lowering the center of gravity. In olden days during the start of motorcycle evolution, it was placed behind and also in the front wheel, but eventually it got failed and in the end, placing it in the middle of chassis was proved to be successful for getting good stability and handling which was still followed till date.

Overdrive simplified - And Suzuki GS150R - The only bike in India with this feature.

Overdrive can be also called as the highest gear in the transmission of a motor vehicle that is very much needed at high speeds and also for cruising purposes, which maximizes fuel economy and reduces the stress caused to the engine. It is an amazing mechanism in transmission that prevents deterioration of engine due to prolonged stress and high speeds while cruising  for a long time on the highways.

YRCS in Yamaha FZ, FZ-S & Fazer - Explained

The YRCS - Yamaha Ram air Cooling System is a new kind of feature which aids for better cooling in air cooled engines used in Yamaha's latest series of bikes in India the FZ, FZ-S and Fazer. This concept is quite simple and an innovative one. The additional attachment of a hood shaped tapered design placed at the cooling fin area of the engine projects the oncoming air flow while riding to the spark plug area where the temperature often rises to the peak. It also helps in better heat dissipation like a heat sink since it provides more surface area as far as I know. This set up along with front placed air flow shrouds directs the air flow perfectly to cool the engine fins.

Suzuki jet cooling system (SJCS) in GS 150R - explained.

Suzuki's 150 cc segment the GS 150R symbolizes a kind of engine cooling technology called as SJCS.  Suzuki's jet cooling system (SJCS) is being employed in these motorcycles to improvise better engine cooling. Normally a conventional engine as we all know is cooled by 3 different ways - air cooled, oil cooled and liquid cooled, But this is a type of special design which is being used in air cooled engines to enhance better cooling and there by providing constant performance. This technology is inherited from Suzuki's advanced cooling system (SACS) which is some what more technologically advanced version of it. okay let's see here in brief how it works.

The advantage of Ducati's desmo valve system.

Ducati - the one brand for best in class motorcycles has a special place in hearts among bike lovers and racers. Unlike when compared to other brands, Ducati bikes are always sportier and has superior distinct performance. This unique performance is due to a completely new approach and design of engine, its components and the framework of the motorcycle. I think that's the reason behind for its ultimate performance and also its cost against other superbikes. The Ducati is the only bike in market and in MotoGP championships to be equipped with a 4 cylinder V-twin type engine using a different valve train . The other competitors like Yamaha, Suzuki and Honda employ a 4 cylinder inline type engine in all their superbikes. Plus the Ducati's engines uses its own patented valve system called as desmodromic valve system which is responsible in part for its spectacular performance.

Traction control - The technology which provides stability to your ride.

Almost all super bikes and cars nowadays are using a traction control system to maintain an excellent stability and also to provide better safety. I came across the word "Traction control" recently in a magazine. In that it was stated that all the race bikes which are being used in MotoGP races are equipped with a traction control system to assist better stability while cornering and sudden acceleration. Apart from that many top end cars also uses some kind of electronically controlled stability modules attached to it to maintain maximum stability and safety while if the driving situation goes out of control. In this part we'll see what a traction control means and how it works on your ride to provide stability.

Volkswagen's Bluemotion Technology - Explained

We might have come across the ads in tv and other media stating as Volkswagen Bluemotion Technologies. This technology for which Volkswagen has exclusively developed for its automobiles was quite impressive. In German 'Volks' means people and 'Wagen' means car. So together, it's called people's car. Similarly the Bluemotion technology also has its meaning. 'Blue' personifies our blue planet Earth and 'Motion' refers to the movement of automobiles.

The advantages of using a Nitrox suspension - Gas charged suspensions.

The rear shock absorbers on current Bajaj Pulsar series bikes are also popularly known as NITROX shock absorbers. These types of shock absorbers are actually called as ‘Gas Filled Shock Absorbers’. The visual differentiation between a conventional shock absorber and a gas filled shock absorber is a small canister (box) which is attached on one side of it. This canister holds a small amount of Nitrogen gas in it. Hence these hydraulic shock absorbers or dampers are called as gas filled shock absorbers. So what is the reason to use a gas filled hydraulic dampers instead of using a conventional one? we'll find out the answer here.

Pulse plug - A new kind of spark plug.

Everyone are familiar about spark plugs. A brand called 'Pulstar' launched a new kind of spark plug called as pulse plug. Pulse plugs - a different innovation in spark plug technology and design acclaims to increase horsepower and fuel efficiency. The new pulse plug produces a stronger and wider spark when compared to the existing spark plugs. Generally the main work of the spark plugs is to ignite the charge (air and fuel) in gasoline engines. The more better and complete combustion of charge also drastically increases the horse power and efficiency. In this post lets see about the technology behind pulse plugs in comparison with existing the spark plugs.

Dynamic Damping Control (DDC) - Technology.

Dynamic Damping Control (DDC) is a new technology that controls the working of suspension system of a vehicle electronically.  Normally the suspensions of a bike or a car works mechanically and they are not controlled by any other means. They work according to a predefined alignment once fixed. But in the Dynamic Damping Control (DDC) system, the valves inside the suspension are controlled electronically which enables to close and open itself according to different riding situations for providing better stability and comfortable ride.

Turbo intercooler- Functions explained

Many cars and trucks  are written on their sides as turbo intercooler or simply intercooler. what does it mean? Actually an intercooler is an additional component fixed to a turbo charger to improve its performance and efficiency. It is similar to a radiator whereas a radiator cools the engine but a turbo intercooler cools the air which is fed into the engine. Lets see it brief here.

Ram air induction - explained

A ram air induction is similar to the technology behind the turbochargers. A turbocharger as we all know it forces the air into the engine to increase its efficiency and performance with the help of burnt exhaust gases coming out from the engine. The turbocharger is an individual component to do this job and its pricy. Better forcing of air into the engine without any additional components provides good efficiency. Based on this concept the ram air induction system works.

Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) - Explained

For an engine needs to work it requires energy from fuel, whether it may be petrol, diesel or any other alternative fuels. Electronic fuel injection is a kind of fuel delivery system or feeding of fuel to the engine in a electronically controlled environment.

It is similar to a computerized delivery of fuel supply to the engine. A computer here in the sense is a small micro controller (a microprocessor and a control unit).
