Bike Dynamics - Cornering, The Feedback Effect And Geometry Behind Motorcycles.

Cornering

Two wheels fitted with chasis and engine is not enough to make a motorcycle an overall performer. Beyond the power of engine, design and model there are lot of factors involved in the better handling and manoeuvring the bike. Here the engineering comes to play a vital role for the better stability and handling of the bike. These things are very essential to make a bike to perform its peak apart from factors like engine power, suspension, brakes etc..

Tyres - Engineering Behind It. + Airless Tyres - The New Breakthrough.

Tyres

Whatever a motorcycle or a car, whether it is a Mercedes or a Nano, without proper tyres we cannot ride. The traction between the road and the vehicle is made only by tyres. Many may think a tyre is just a round piece of rubber, but many don't know the engineering and technology behind the manufacturing of tyres. The tyres serve two important purposes for the vehicle, one they absorb the shock created by the irregularities of the road which in turn gives a comfortable ride to a rider and two, a good tyre provides good traction ie, a good road grip between the road and the vehicle which enables to accelerate, brake, make turns without skidding.

Projector Headlights

Headlights - Focussing on projector headlights.

I hope many people are familiar with projector headlights. Generally a headlight serves an important purpose to provide better illumination of road. Headlights are evolved from time to time. The first headlights used in automobiles before the invention of light bulbs were acetylene  lamp or torches since they are resistant to wind and rain. Slowly with the advancement of technology after the invention of electric bulbs the headlights for automobiles are also evolved.

Yamaha R15 & Honda CBR 250R

Yamaha R15

Yamaha R15 - one of the finest and advanced sports bike that has redefined the biking experience and India's first bike to be equipped with a liquid cooled engine. It has evolved from the DNA of  Moto GP legend- Yamaha R1. It suits well for the riding conditions in India, whether it may be a city riding, cruising through highways or racing, no doubt it is an overall performer. this bike comes to life at higher RPM's and you can feel its sheer performance and handling at top speeds. It is also India's first bike to be tested in an wind tunnel for its design of aerodynamic fairing. It provides minimal air resistance during high speed runs.

Anti lock Braking System (ABS) - Benefits, Components and Working.,

ABS

ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) is a brake system which prevents the locking of wheels and avoids the skidding of vehicles during turns, sharp and sudden braking. It maintains better stability and handling.

Now the most advanced vehicles employ the ABS brakes for braking. It allows the driver to maintain the steering control during hard braking situations.

Engine Oils . Castrol Power 1 Racing - Fully Synthetic Racing Engine Oil

Engine Oils

Motor oil or engine oil is an oil used for lubrication of various internal combustion engines. The main function is to lubricate moving parts; it also cleans, inhibits corrosion, improves sealing, and cools the engine by carrying heat away from moving parts.
Generally the engine oils are classified under three categories,
  • Mineral type
  • synthetic type
  • Semi Synthetic type

Iridium Spark Plugs

Spark Plugs:

Spark plugs are used to ignite the compressed air fuel mixture in SI engine during the compression cycle. The better ignition of fuel with better timing of ignition increases the performance and mileage. A poor condition spark plug will decrease engine efficiency and power.

So sparks plugs are always among the important performance components of all time. The better ignition of fuel provides the better performance of engine.

Stroke Ratios

The Bore & Stroke

The engine capacity is measured as Bore x Stroke. Here, Bore is the diameter of the cylindrical block and Stroke is the depth of the cylindrical block, as shown in the image.
When stroke/bore value is over 1:1 the engine is long-stroke or undersquare and when the stroke/bore value is under 1:1 the engine is short-stroke or oversquare. The square engine has a value of 1:1 in both cases.
For example an engine with 110 millimetres (4.33 in) stroke and 80 millimetres (3.15 in) bore, stroke/bore value 1.375, is an undersquare or long-stroke engine. An engine that has 70 millimetres (2.76 in) stroke and 100 millimetres (3.94 in) bore, stroke/bore value 0.7, is oversquare or short-stroke

The Working Cycle Of IC Engines

The Working Cycle

Stroke:
If an engine has to work successfully then it has to follow a cycle of operations in a sequential manner. The sequence is quite ridged and it cannot be changed.

"Stroke" refers to the movement of the piston in the engine. 2 Stroke means one stroke in each direction. A 2 stoke engine will have a compression stroke followed by an explosion of the compressed fuel. On the return stroke new fuel mixture is inserted into the cylinder.

Engine Basics - The Basic Frame Work Of Engines..

ENGINEs
Engines are everywhere, It makes our lives simpler and faster everyday. It makes our complex tasks into simpler  & easier one. Our world comes to halt if there are no engines. It helps humans in innumerable ways, and at last made the mankind to reach the sky even to the space.

To say about an engine it is a device that converts one form of energy to another form. Mainly the engines function by employing the thermal energy or heat energy to useful mechanical work.
These engines can be broadly classified into two types,
1. External combustion engines [EC Engines]
2. Internal combustion engines [IC Engines]
